1952 / THE YEAR OF THE DRAGON

The first ransom demand came to the American Chinese
as a shock, and was treated as an ill puzzle, but
it written by their loved ones.
The Wind carne from the East
She strikes the hearts of those that care.
She enters, to smile
upon the floral gate that hastens the departure of death.
She brushes by the morning light to survey the temple.
She chills the faces
that dare stand in the night.
She rises with the prayers
that drift over the laughing voices
outward—outward to the East.
How much could a man fay a blackmailer for the safety of his family still in China? Would there be enough money? There are only two solutions; fay until the blackmailer claims his body and soul, or choose to be free, thus sacrificing his beloved. Many made the súfreme task of forsaking their loved ones, not because they do not love, but they flace human dignity above all suffering.
